Day 1 : Bali – Surabaya – Pankalan Bun – Tanjung Puting National Park
After breakfast transfer to the airport of Ngurah Rai, Bali for a short flight to Surabaya. Capital city of East-Java we only stay here for a short transit before taking our second flight to Pankalan Bun, Central Kalimantan. Upon arrival we proceed to Kumai, a small harbor along the Kumai river. Quickly we end up on the Seikonyer river, the main river in the National Park Tanjung Puting. Along the shore lines we can easily spot promiscius monkeys and with some luck hornbills or other wildlife. Dinner and overnight at Rimba Lodge.

Day 2 : Tanjung Putting National Park
Breakfast. We go to the docks and board our “klodok” or traditional boat going upstream to Camp Leaky area. We pass the black river so calles for its dark black water caused by the decomposing flora of the forest. We go for a jungle trekking to look for different wildlife. Lunch on the boat. At 14.00 we follow the feeding program of the orang oetang. Rangers bring banana, sweet potato and casava to a designated platform. Suddenly we hear trashing and see movement in the dense vegetation, a sign the orang oetang are coming out. Round 16.00 we go back to our klodok for dinner and overnight.

Day 3 : Tanjung Putting National Park
After breakfast we steam downstream to get to the second feeding station, called Pondok Tanggui where the babies and juveniles of the Orangutang get fed. Approximately 2 hours trekking is needed for us to reach this camp. Afterwards we continue to the village of Tanjung Harapan where we can observe the semi Dayak settlement at the gate of the National Park. The dayak are the indigenous people of the island of Borneo. Once they where feared as headhunters and are to this day skilled blowpipe hunters. Lunch along the way in the forest. Around 15.00 we visit the First Camp Tanjung Harapan just across the river from the dayak village to witness the last feeding of the day. Back on the boat we return to the Nipah Palm area for dinner and overnight at the Rimba Lodge.

Day 4 : Kumai – Pankalan Bun – Surabaya
Breakfast. We go back following the river to Kumai. Transfer to Pangkalan Bun airport for the early afternoon flight to Surabaya. Transit and connecting flight to Bali. Transfer to the hotel. Free diner.

Day 5 : Bromo – Kalibaru
Early morning after coffee we take a 4*4 jeep to go up the mountain. From a high viewpoint we witness the sunrise above this extraterrestrial landscape filled with no less than 4 volcano’s and see the colors change every minute. A short drive over the sand sea inside the main crater makes us realize how big these volcano’s really are. By horse we go to the rim of the Bromo volcano, protecting our respiration against the occasional sulfurcloud. Later we go back to our hotel for breakfast. We leave the Tengger National Park and drive further east. The daytrip up to Kalibaru will be worthwhile as we can experience the daily life of the Javanese people along the road. Several short stops will be made, including a break for lunch. We arrive in our hotel in Kalibaru in the late afternoon. Time for a swim and relaxing. Dinner and overnight in the hotel.

Day 6 : East-Java and its Old Dutch Plantations
Breakfast. This morning we visit a coffee, rubber and cacao plantation, nationalized after the independent struggle from the Dutch. Here we learn more about these mountain crops that meant power and fortune in the old days. A local guide explains us the cultivation, harvesting and processing in detail. Lunch in our hotel. The trip to the most eastern tip of Java takes us to the Mountain Resort of Ijen. Dinner and overnight.

Day 7 : Kawen Ijen - Banyuwangi - Gili Manuk - Sanur/ Kuta
Breakfast. This morning we visit a coffee, rubber and cacao plantation, nationalized after the independent struggle from the Dutch.
