Yogyakarta, Center of Java's Culture

Day 1 : Denpasar - Yogyakarta
After breakfast transfer to the airport of Ngurah Rai for the domestic flight to Java. Upon arrival we first go visit the Prambanan complex, a Hindu-Budhist complex. Prambanan, situated on the border between the provinces Yogyakarta and Central Java is a real open air museum. The Trimurti or Holy Trinity is without a doubt the most impressive. This complex is made up of no less then 200 big and small temples, most of them dating back to the 9th centuary. The three main temples are decorated with beautiful reliefs epicting the important Ramayana and Krishnayana Hindu stories. Lunch in a local restaurant. In the city we can see the art of Batik. Batik is closely connected to the Javanese culture and plays an important role in the many ceremonies. With endless patience and experience these people make the most inticrate patterns on coton or silk. Check-in hotel. Free dinner and overnight.

Day 2 : Yogyakarta
Breakfast. Yogyakarta, founded in 1755 has developed itself as the most Javanese part of the island. Consequently the city is the centre of the Javanese culture. We take the becak or traditional bicycletaxi and drive around throught the well known Malioboro street untill we arrive at the Palace of the Sultan. The Keraton, or palace is for the people of Yogya the spiritual centre. After this visit we have some time to stroll around the cozy and busy Malioboro street. In the evening we take our diner in the city, and enjoy the Javanese dancing theatre afterwards. These royal dances have been perfectionized en show the fine body expression while telling the traditional Hindu story’s. Overnight.

Day 3 : Yogyakarta - Borobudur
After breakfast we visit the biggest budhist monument in the world, situated in the northeast of Yogyakarta. This unique monument was built around a natural hill en exists of different terraces decorated with hundreds of buddha statues and stuppa. The thousands of murals tell the life story of the buddha en show how ordinary people can find the way to enlightening. After an extensive visit we have lunch at the foot of the temple. Candi Mendut, a smaller budhist temple dates from a more early period and is today still a place of worship. Free dinner and overnight.

Day 4 : Yogyakarta - Bali
Breakfast. After a short flight of approximaltly one hour we are back in Bali. Transfer to the hotel. Check-in and overnight. Free lunch and dinner.
